Why I Now Take Deposits – And Why That’s Not Changing
"Trigger Warning: This post contains discussions of assault and sexual assault"
A few days ago, I woke up to some really disturbing news.
A masseuse had been attacked… and stabbed. Yes - stabbed - by some creepy and aggressive “client.” There’s actual footage of the attack + attacker circulating in our circles right now
Also, just days before that, I heard about another woman who had been raped by a “client” .... the stabbing is first (that I've heard of...), but I have heard about rape a few times, incl. from someone I know personally.... So.... this isn’t drama or exaggeration. This is the scary reality some ladies are working in.
There are many time wasters out there and deposits help protect my time. That’s the obvious part. But honestly, that’s not even the main reason anymore..... Deposits act as a basic filter. They help “recycle” through the dodgy people - the ones who are unserious, disrespectful, or have bad intentions. And unfortunately, as you can see, it’s not just "harmless" and annoying time-wasters we’re dealing with... There are genuinely dangerous individuals out there. People who want to harm others.
And I want to keep things safe, thank you. (:
“I’m not comfortable paying a deposit”
I get it. I really do... BUT trust goes both ways, and I understand that sending money upfront can feel uncomfortable- especially if you’ve never seen me before.
BUT I have a legit business account, a website that is doing fairly well on Google AND deposits are standard practice pretty much everywhere now.
Your dentist won’t book you without one....
Most massage and hair salons require one...
My own massage therapist requires one!!!
Hotels, dinner reservations, catering services… the list goes on....
And, an intimate massage, too, is a service and the service provider's time, too, is valuable.
There are plenty of masseuses out there who don’t require deposits.
If that works better for you, that’s completely your choice—and I respect that.
But I’m not one of them anymore. And won’t be ever again.
Final thought
At the end of the day, this is about basic safety and respect.
If someone is serious about booking, a deposit shouldn’t be an issue.
And if it is… then maybe we’re not the right fit.
We are all going to die one day and I don't have time for bollocks.
🙂
